No One Wants To Work
This mantra has flooded my social media feeds. My conservative friends are up and arms over the situation that there are so many low-wage job openings and no one to flip their burger. A lot of these companies have posted about the government giving people a “handout” during a global pandemic, and they’re truly showing just how much these corporations don’t care about the well-being of their employees. These same jobs were deemed less than by society to pay the person working less than a living wage yet it is considered an essential role. You can’t have it both ways. If that job is so vital then why is it not paying a thriving wage? If you think cooking or stocking shelves is a job that is unskilled or easy labor then you haven’t done it before. These jobs are very high demand and require a lot of wear on the body with horrible hours, no insurance, poverty pay, and missing holidays with loved ones, and not seeing friends over the weekend. Working with the public is a very mentally grueling position. You take constant harassment from patrons and you have to keep a smile on your face your entire shift and an upbeat happy attitude. Don’t forget the culture in these companies is more often than not toxic. They discourage you from calling in sick or do not even offer paid sick time and of course if you aren’t even being paid enough to live you can’t afford to be sick. This is just a tip of the truth of the working poor in America.
